About your stay

Staying at Potentino is like being invited into a private home.

We encourage guests to join in any of our daily activities. We offer guests an in-depth wine tasting of wines made at Potentino. We can also suggest walks and expeditions in and around Potentino. Having lived for many years in Italy, our experience can give guests a real insight into Tuscany and we are always happy to help with your plans for the day. Charlotte and Alexander love eating and can usually recommend you a good restaurant wherever you plan to go.

Breakfast

We offer a self-service breakfast in the old castle canteen. When we travel, we like to wake up very slowly on our own terms and at Potentino, you can do this too. There is fresh fruit, a selection of cereals, local Tuscan bread and pastries and, if we have any left, some homemade cherry jam.

Access to the Castle

Cars should be left in the carpark by the olive trees before the ramps. Please do not attempt to drive up the ramps as they are very narrow and cars cannot turn and you are liable to get stuck. If you would like a hand with your bags, do not hesitate to ask. If you are coming for a short stay, we recommend a small overnight bag.

Facilities

WIFI is available in most areas of the castle free of charge. We offer chargers for two electric cars- one for Tesla Vehicles and one for general cars. Guests are also welcome to sit under the loggia, or explore in the gardens. All the views are wonderful. We also have a very beautiful swimming pool in the olive groves above the castle where there are trees that are over a thousand years old.

Things To Do In The Area

We are close to Montalcino, famous for its Brunello wine; the onyx romanesque abbey of Sant Antimo; the Renaissance City jewel of Pienza; and the famous gardens of La Foce created by Iris Origo. The stunning medieval towns of Pitigliano, Sorano and Siena are also nearby. The hot springs and spas of Saturnia, Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Fillippo are easy day trips. For walking, there are many light treks around the valley. And for the more strenuously minded, there is the magic mountain itself, with its romantic birch woods, the Amiata. We can organise lunches and dinners at the castle with local cooks or arrange tastings and meals at other estates on request.
